Message from Executive Director – Chris Mariner

To paraphrase Denise Morrison; ‘the mission at hand is to provide strong leadership, live a balanced life and apply ethical principles in a way that makes a significant, positive difference.
My fellow directors and co-owners of MECX have been integrally involved with the growth of our company since the first day of incorporation. We laid the very first brick and we haven’t stopped building since! Our philosophy and dedication to MECX hasn’t once wavered – we are building a business that we can be proud of – and that pride in achievement extends without fail to everyone that we work with… employees, consultants, contractors, suppliers, customers, clients and other key stakeholders.

MECX Group has the capacity to service a comprehensive range of infrastructure requirements, both in the UK (our primary market) and overseas. We have the ability to deliver contracting, engineering and support services solutions. For me, delivery is about working with our customers and clients in a manner that is collaborative, productive and safe. The high level components of project delivery drive our critical path… i.e. programme will always be pragmatic, cost will be the best price available and neither safety nor quality will ever be compromised.

Our people are our pedigree and my commitment to all those engaged by MECX is to ensure that our company is a place where we can work together ethically and productively, to everyone’s mutual benefit. Teamwork is key. Our success as a business will be determined by the success of our people. Leading that initiative is my job and the remit of the entire MECX Group board, and I can assure all involved, that we will try our hardest to see this mission through to completion.

More About Us

MECX Group has a singular focus on helping to construct and maintain the physical and naturally built environments that combine to make up the transport, energy and utility infrastructure networks.

We help asset owners, managers, operators and their principal contractors maintain economic and efficient operation of their networks assets and associated facilities through effective works delivery, for both individual schemes and frameworks, and complement this through the provision of a range of relevant and appropriate support services.

Additionally, we help commercial and industrial clients manage and maintain their buildings, grounds and private infrastructure through a range of hard and soft facilities management services.

The company helps clients spend less, spend well and spend wisely by delivering effective works and providing a range of efficient support services to maintain, repair, renew and enhance network assets, and buildings and facilities across the UK and Ireland.

Our vision is for MECX to be the supplier of choice for those companies that own, operate, maintain, repair and enhance the strategic infrastructure assets that provide for the effective movement of commodities and services that are essential to enable, sustain, and enhance society.  We will achieve this by engaging openly and honestly with client organisations to understand how we create and develop solutions that are relevant to the challenges they face.

We aim for all stakeholders to benefit from our vision.  Clients will benefit from our continuing focus on improving the efficiency and effectiveness of the works we deliver and the services we provide.  Our colleagues are critical to us achieving this aim, so we will continue to provide a safe, inclusive and positive environment, one where colleagues will have opportunities to realise their full potential and develop their skills to achieve their own goals and maximise the effectiveness of the service we provide to our clients.

The vision calls for a profitable business, one that maintains a financial discipline so that as we continue to create effective, economic efficiency for our clients, we also create value for our shareholders and stakeholders to ensure the continued viability and prosperity of MECX Group.

Company History

As one of the most up and coming names in the industry, MECX Group has a proud history of delivering major infrastructure programmes in both the UK & Ireland. We have worked hard to build up an enviable reputation with both our clients and competitors and excel in safety, quality and reliability when delivering our services.

Today’s market presents many challenges and opportunities which in turn has meant that our business has had to react and evolve rapidly in order to continue to deliver exceptional infrastructure services.  Below is a brief timeline on how the MECX Group has evolved since inception.

The business traces its routes back to 2003, when the current Director – Chris Mariner incorporated the business as JSB Rail. The company’s primary market focus was the supply of AC OLE isolation services, plus the provision of multiple grades of contingent labour to contractors working across the rail engineering spectrum.

The current entity was formed through the creation of an equal joint venture. The aim of the joint venture was to allow JSB to have a pure focus on technical services within the electrification space, initially, and the signalling sector later on. With a dedicated focus on these technical services, the company continued to grow in size, scale and reputation securing many key contracts with Network Rail and tier one principal contractors.

The joint venture shareholding was purchased by MECX Holdings, which renamed the business MECX Technical Services, and a strategic change of direction for MECX by extending its range of activities to include works delivery for assets owners and operators, and the principal contractors. Additionally, the service portfolio of the business expanded to include signalling, and general civil engineering and building works and maintenance through the addition to the group of MECX Contracting.

Restructured in January 2018 and now with an annual turnover approaching £30m across all group interests and rebranded as the MECX Group. A Tier 2/3 contracting & technical organisation which operates across the infrastructure markets of Great Britain, Isle of Man, Canada & Ireland. Operational sectors include rail engineering, transportation, facilities management, support services, training & vegetation management,  To complement this restructure, the company also acquired major interests in both Utility Arb Solutions Ltd and PPS Rail Limited. Making these two investments has allowed MECX to expand upon its current service offering by expanding our range of facilities management and maintenance services, Vegetation Management and Environmental Services, together with being able to provide industry specific training, including railway apprenticeships, skills and competency training  and possession planning.

Our Team

To support the growth and future of our business we have appointed several key Directors and Heads of Department within each of our core business sectors. Each of our team are recognised as specialists within their chosen sector and will be acting as ambassadors on behalf of MECX in everything they do.

Their primary role is to win projects, maintain a deeper understanding of their specific market sectors and respective client drivers. Meanwhile, translating these into opportunities and building MECX’s market position through proactive engagement, whilst building upon our reputation for excellence.
