MECX Group would like to welcome on Board Scotty McConnell-Lawlor as their new Health & Safety Manager.
Scotty is a Health & Safety Professional with over 25 years’ experience of working in high risk industrial environments, including rail construction & infrastructure projects, offshore civil engineering project, offshore oil & gas production and marine exploration surveys.
He served in the Royal Navy for nine years as an Electronics Technician, joining the merchant navy in 1989 as a Navigator & Technician assigned to Seismic vessels conducting oil exploration surveys around the world. In 1991, Scotty became involved in the safety management of the ship, assisting the ship’s officers in training the ships crew in fire fighting. This in turn led to his appointment in 1994 as HSE Advisor to an exploration fleet working in Holland. Over the next 8 years he was the offshore HSE Lead on exploration projects in the UK, Nigeria, Egypt, India, Iran, UAE, Saudi Arabia and the USA.
Over the last 16 years Scotty has worked for both the Client and Principle Contractors on on a number of major rail projects including the Power Supply Upgrade Project for the Wessex Region, Kings Cross Station Redevelopment Programme, West Coast Power Supply Upgrade Project and the Great Western Electrification Programme. Most recently he worked on the Bond Street Station Upgrade Project in Central London and the Northern Line Extension at Battersea and Nine Elms, also in London.
He holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Occupational Safety & Health Management from the University of Portsmouth, in additional to the NEBOSH General and Construction certificates. He is a Graduate Member of the Institute of Occupational Safety & Health, IOSH, and is a full Member of the International Institute of Risk & Safety Management, IIRSM.
