Chris Mariner, CEO, MECX Group is pleased to welcome aboard our new Group Head of HSQE – Jim Clegg. With over 20 years rail experience and an abundance of Occupational Health & Safety expertise, Jim will oversee and assure the management & implementation of all our MECX Group HSQE policies.
Having spent 10 formative years working as a coal miner before deciding to move into the rail industry, Jim has a genuine understanding of the complexities and nuances associated with site based delivery. His rail experience extends from a hands-on 25kV Mainline OLE Linesman and Nominated Person to extensive experience across Civils, P.Way Signalling & Telecoms and associated Light Rail Systems – in 2014, Jim was appointed to the role of Corporate Head of Health, Safety, Training, Environment & Quality at Nexus (Tyne & Wear) Passenger Transport Executive where he was accountable to the Director General and Strategic Safety Board for the development and implementation of an appropriate Safety Management System. Specific HSQE experience in the railway sector includes the prestigious West Coast Route Modernisation Programme, North London Line Renewals, Watford Area Re-signalling Programme and West Coast Auto-Transformer Feeder project (both as a Senior Project Engineer and HSEQ Manager). Outside of rail, Jim has held key senior HSQE roles in projects such as London 2012 Olympics and Hinkley Point C Nuclear Power Station. He is currently completing his MSc Masters Degree in Occupational Health & Safety at Loughborough University and holds HSE professional qualifications including IOSH, MIIRSM, ISO Lead Auditor and other related, rail-specific accreditations and competencies.
“I’m passionate about involving the workforce in health & safety management. I believe that people are the solution, and that people who are actually doing the work should be empowered to influence how tasks are planned. Safety is not what an office based department does – it is what we all achieve”… Jim Clegg (Sept 2018)
From everyone at MECX – Welcome Aboard Jim!
