MECX and MXR are proud to support Town Green Girls Football Club. All the girls have been together for 3 years and start this season as under 12’s. Town Green Football Club is an FA charter standard club established in 1973, and is committed to grassroots football at all ages and ability and run by purely by volunteers.
The girls formed in 2015 when they were 8 years old and the majority of the team have stayed together. The squad consists of 12 players aged 10, 11 and 12 and coached and managed by Emma Rimmer. The Football Club joined the West Lancashire Girls League this season and will play home and away games across Lancashire, travelling to Burnley, Blackpool, Wigan and as far as Edenfield. The Club is looking to attract more players as they recently lost their goalkeeper when she signed for Liverpool Ladies Academy. Sadly it was a double loss for the team, as her dad, former professional goalkeeper, Chris Kirkland used to help to coach the team! However all is not lost as Emma Rimmer volunteered to get the team off the ground.
Each year the team enter a summer tournament. Last year this took place in Euxton, Chorley and the team got through to the semi finals, narrowly missing out on a place in the finals when they lost the penalty shoot out. So no silverware last season but there’s a definite glimmer of hope that this season will be different, and there will be silverware on the mantlepiece!
Everyone at MECX & MXR will be following & supporting the girls throughout the season and we wish them every success in their up and coming matches. We will keep you posted!
